2017.3 Release Notes: Import perspectives for Discovery Professional users, create Crosstab charts,  perform variance analysis using Gauge charts,  and duplicate dashboards and charts,  multi-select dimensions in a filter, and get the latest data by refreshing.

Import Charts to the New User Interface

We've got you covered. For Dashboards Professional customers, we are providing an easy-to-use Import Perspectives tool that will help you move your classic Dashboards charts to the new user interface.

Watch a video How to import perspectives to the new user interface.

Read Moving to the New User Interface for Dashboards for more details and FAQs.

Adaptive admin users can import all perspectives available within the instance except for personal perspectives that were created by individual users in their own personal folders. Users can import their perspectives if they want to.

It's easy to import a classic perspective into the new user interface.

New UI for Discovery with the Import Perspective Button Enabled

  1. Import Perspectives.
Run the import for each perspective to move them to the new UI in Discovery
  2. View and check for unexpected results.
Some classic features are unavailable in the new user interface, such as conditional formatting, zone highlighting, map dial, dashboard snapshots, and dial filters. Make sure imported charts are exactly what you want before sharing them.
  3. Import many times.
Each import creates a copy of the perspective. Importing does not change the original perspective.
  4. Hide the Import Perspectives tool when done.
Navigate to Administration > Discovery Preferences and turn off Enable Import.

Summarize Data with Crosstab Charts

Show me the numbers. With the new Crosstab chart, you can showcase numeric-rich data in a grid format. Use accounts, time, and dimensions to group data. This crosstab chart shows planned revenue for the year broken down by quarters (time) and by location (dimension).

You can add accounts, dimensions and time as columns or rows. You can reorder column and row groupings.

Account groups can be either a column or row. If a specific dimension or time is used once as a column or row, it cannot be reused in the same chart.

Variance Analysis for Gauge and Meter Charts

Use the Gauge chart to compare one version as a percentage or absolute value of another version.

  • Compare data from a single account across two data series, such as planned versus actuals.
  • Set reference, comparison, and variance

Gauge and meter charts currently support only one account for comparing two data series. For example, you can add a Revenue account to a gauge chart and compare data from a planning version with data from an actuals version. You cannot add a Revenue account and a Net Income account to a gauge chart to perform variance analysis.

The following gauge chart compares planned revenue to actuals as an absolute value:

User Experience Enhancements

Duplicate Dashboards and Charts

Create duplicates of your dashboards and charts. This time-saver lets you create a copy of your styled dashboard or chart and reuse them for different purposes and analysis. Duplicating a dashboard copies the dashboard and all charts in the dashboard. Duplicating a chart copies just the chart.

Each duplicate is an independent copy that you can edit without affecting the original.

UI for Duplicating Dashboards and Duplicating Charts

Hover your mouse over the dashboard tab or the chart to expose moreIcon.png (More menu) and choose Duplicate. The title of the duplicated dashboard or chart is appended with "- Copy". Edit the dashboard or chart from the Appearance tab to rename.

Multi-Select Dimension Members in a Data  Filter

Get picky when choosing data filters for your charts. You can now multi-select dimensions and dimension members when filtering data on a chart. From the Data Settings tab on any chart, click the Filter arrow to open the selection panel. Expand the dimension and choose dimension members to filter. The following shows that Product Revenue is filtered by two dimensions:

  • Product dimension: Product A1 dimension member
  • Location dimension: Canada and India dimension members

The selection panel displays the selected dimension members at the top and also highlights these selections in the list. To clear the filter for:

  • A dimension and all its members that are displayed at the top, click X next to the selected dimension.
  • A dimension member, click the highlighted dimension member from the list.

See chart data settings on any chart type for more information on the Accounts Filter option

Get the latest available data by refreshing all charts on the current dashboard. You can refresh data from  grid view mode, presentation mode and from edit mode.

The new Dashboards user interface no longer supports configuring font sizes explicitly. This change is the first stage in providing a dynamically sized Dashboards interface for an upcoming release.
