How do you open an OfficeConnect file in Excel?


There are two options to open or save an OfficeConnect file (with the extension .xlsxai) in Excel to allow users without OfficeConnect installed to see the information

The options below will convert all data to hard-coded values/formulas when viewing from Excel. If there is any data in the OfficeConnect file you do not want shown when viewing from Excel you will need to remove this before you proceed with options 1 or 2 below.

1. With OfficeConnect Excel running go to File > OfficeConnect > Export Workbook and Save the file.

  • This will save it as a regular Excel file (with the extension .xlsx) that anyone can open with Excel
  • In the new file saved as .xlsx there will no longer be metadata or access restrictions.


2. Save the file in OfficeConnect as you regularly would (clearing data if needed) and open the saved OfficeConnect file in Excel

  • A warning will show up saying you are opening a file in a different format than expected, asking "Do you want to open the file now?"

  • Clicking "Yes" will display the file in Excel without metadata or access restrictions
