What Can I Do If My Sheets/Reports Are Taking Longer Than Expected To Load?

My sheets and reports are taking a long time to load. Do you know what could be causing the long load times?


There are many factors that can influence the amount of time it takes for data in an instance to load and calculate. This could include elements like the number of levels, the number of accounts, the number of years in a version and the complexity of formulas within accounts. Any element that affects the amount of data that has to load from the database and/or the number of calculations that have to take place to display data can affect the performance in an instance.

This article provides common troubleshooting steps and an overview of what information to provide to support if additional help is needed.

Check for and remove formula errors in your instance:

Any formula errors can add unnecessary processing time to evaluations. Use the validate formulas option to quickly identify and correct errors.  The addition of circular reference errors can have a significant impact on performance.

1. Go to Admin > Validate formulas

2. Select the option to Exclude Reference Errors

3. Click Refresh

Pinpoint the account or accounts that are contributing to the delays:

If you are working in a Standard Sheet, you can switch the view to "View by Level" mode and load each account individually to pinpoint bottlenecks.  In a Cube Sheet, put the account as an element in the dimension selectors and load the accounts one at a time.  Once you have identified the account or accounts, note the account types, Dimension/Level rollup settings, etc.

If you need additional assistance, collect the following information and submit a support ticket:

1. Date and Time when the behavior is observed.

2. Screen where you are seeing the behavior and a description of what is happening.

3. How long it is taking to process.

4. How long it normally takes to run/load and the last time that you ran the report or loaded the sheet where the performance was expected. If this is the first time loading a sheet or report, let us know. 

5. If this is a change from normal behavior, note any recent changes to the instance, i.e. we just added new accounts to our revenue instance, we updated the formula logic in our revenue model, we added some new allocations, we imported data to the Revenue sheet for the first time,  etc.
